15-Year Stevenage Borough Council and Wenta Partnership shines a spotlight on thriving local businesses

Stevenage Borough Council's Loraine Rossati, Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Transport, and Kathryn Carr, Interim Strategic Director, visited The Business and Technology Centre (btc) on Bessemer Drive on Thursday 30th July. The visit provided an opportunity to engage with local Stevenage business owners and to learn more about how Wenta, the not for profit, social enterprise that manages the btc, supports local people in Stevenage in starting, running and growing their own businesses.

A Warm Welcome for Stevenage's Business Community

The day kicked off with a tour of the btc’s facilities, where Councillor Loraine Rossati and Kathryn Carr visited the Wenta Team and several businesses based at the centre. As a well-established business hub providing skills training, impartial and accessible business advice and affordable workspace for small businesses, Councillor Loraine Rossati and Kathryn were impressed by the amount of support on offer at the centre through Wenta and the impact that this has had on local Stevenage people. The btc offers a wide range of community events, networking opportunities and expert support to help businesses to start up, grow and thrive, which complements Stevenage Borough Council’s wider investments and initiatives taking place across the town.

Wenta’s mission is to make it easier and greener to start and run a business, ensuring local people receive 360-degree support that goes beyond just information or services. Wenta’s team is dedicated to helping local businesses to navigate challenges, build confidence, learn new skills and access the help they need – combining human-centred support with tech-driven efficiencies.

Meet the Businesses Making a Difference

Jennifer Condon, Director of Client Services and Engagement, and David Pointer, Director of Finance, led the tour, giving Councillor Rossati and Kathryn Carr the chance to visit and talk with some of the businesses based at btc including X03D, Sophia’s Holistic Health Shala, Surecare and Molly Maid, and A Plus Brickwork.

  • XO3D: Specialising in 3D product animation and rendering, XO3D has been a client at btc since 2022. The company provides services to major brands like Ferrari, Burberry and Imperial College London. Their recent office expansion, facilitated by Wenta’s team, allowed them to continue growing and recruiting. They have even hosted a work experience student, Max Reis, who gained valuable insights for his future career.
  • Sophia’s Holistic Health Shala: New to btc in May 2025, Sophia’s business brings a full range of holistic treatments to the local community. From massages to acupuncture, Sophia tailors each treatment to meet individual needs and has already made valuable connections through Wenta’s networking events.
  • SureCare and Molly Maid: Ritu and Ran have established two successful businesses at btc: SureCare, providing care services, and Molly Maid, offering domestic cleaning services in the Stevenage area. Both businesses have expanded in recent years, with Wenta’s team supporting them every step of the way, including finding a larger unit for their growing operations.
  • A Plus Brickwork: Providing high-end construction services, A+ Brickwork has been with btc since 2020. Their recent move to a larger unit has allowed the business to recruit additional staff, with Wenta’s team offering financial assistance to make the transition smoother.

Commenting on the visit, Jennifer Condon said: “A huge thank you to Cllr Loraine Rossati and Kathryn Carr for visiting us today. It was a privilege to hear, first hand, from the business owners we have been supporting in Stevenage for the past decade and a half and to hear about the life-changing impact that Wenta has had on them personally and on their businesses. The Business and Technology Centre is a place of opportunity for the people of Stevenage. We don’t just mean people that work here. It’s for the people that live here and have grown up in Stevenage. We’re excited about the future and the many ways we can continue to support the local community. As we roll out our digital strategy to increase reach, impact and growth across Stevenage, our ongoing partnership with Stevenage Borough Council will only grow stronger – building on our 15 years of shared success and innovation.”

Mikhail, the btc Centre Manager, spoke about recent collaborations, such as the one-click referral partnership with CAB Stevenage that has recently been announced. This partnership has been formed to make it easier, within one click, for each organisation to help people get to the support they need faster, whether that be help with business support, homelessness, employment, skills training or debt and financial assistance.

Wenta’s ongoing partnerships with North Herts College also came into focus, with local students benefiting from real, practical work placements at the centre, giving them real experience for their CVs and future careers.

A Vision for a Stronger Local Economy

During the visit, Councillor Rossati and Kathryn Carr expressed their continued support for small businesses, recognising the crucial role they play in building a strong and sustainable local economy.

Reflecting on the day, Councillor Rossati commented, “Stevenage is the perfect place to start and grow a business, evidenced by the diverse range of businesses working from the btc.  I was impressed by the support that the btc offers to budding entrepreneurs, and to businesses seeking to expand.  The level of investment that will be coming into Stevenage over the coming decade will result in even more new businesses seeking to be located here, and our business and skills partnerships are here to support them.”
